After seven seasons, The West Wing has officially been cancelled. The decision was made before the passing of John Spencer (and also neaty deals with creating a story without him in it since the VP is pretty much done with the election at this point anyway). The last episode will be in May and end with the inauguration of the new president. This also leaves open the possibility of the election really going either way since the writers won’t have to live with the decision.

For me, I think the time is right. Actually, it was probably about a year ago. The move to Sunday this season was definitely a sign of things to come.

In the same report from AP, Las Vegas will be moving to Friday nights in March and Law and Order will be bumped an hour on Wednesday nights to compete with Lost
