Whether you know it or not, there is a new format war raging between HD-DVD and Blu-Ray DVD that would take me back to the days of VHS versus Betamax if I remembered them clearly.

While I like the specs on the HD-DVD format better (plus I’m annoyed with Sony as a corporation in general and they give us Blu-Ray), I really don’t think either format will last long.

Here’s why.

There’s no format war to win if there are no discs to buy.  Only services to compete over which you choose to pay for a download.  And what’s more is that you won’t necessarily be limited to the one you choose first and, most likely, won’t have to buy special equipment for each service.  You’ll just have a computer connected to your TV just like many have a DVR.  In fact, this computer will double as your DVR, too.

It’s a bright future for entertainment.  Assuming we don’t fully deplete our natural resources or succumb to global warming by then.

Rex Hammond has some good words about the fear mongering going on today with the terrorism and security threats going on.

Who needs terrorists causing terror when we have the evening news?

Rocketboom has a great piece up today taking a nice shot at Scientology.

Is it nice to take shots at other people’s beliefs? Not really. But I like satire and this is full of it.

Enjoy! And go back sometime. It’s 5-6 minutes of better news than I see on any TV station and funny, funny, funny!

Just a reminder.

This animation is a couple of years old, so the “last month” numbers probably aren’t accurate. Still, it’s pretty chilling to watch. I was laughing a bit until the scene changed.

It seems that Pixar may be bought out by or merged into (a nicer way of saying bought out) Disney. Apparently, this could mean big things for Steve Jobs and iTunes users.

I wonder, though, if Mickey’s head will be replaced by an apple.

House is not airing during October due to some kind of organized sporting event involving a stick, a ball, 9 defenders, and people running and scoring. Instead of doing what FOX would have me do and watch the baseball playoffs, I’ll be migrating to ABC for the 9:00 hour to see Commander-in-Chief tonight. That after the 8:00 addiction of Gilmore Girls.

Next, I’ll either collapse in my nice, warm bed or delay that inevitable joy by continuing to build a virtual dream house for a non-existant character in The Sims 2.

No kidding, my life is exciting.

Well, I finally switched from Blockbuster to Netflix. Blockbuster was good, but they kept sending me discs that were too scratched up to play in my DVD player. Netflix may as well, but they have the benefit of having never sent me a DVD for me to know yet. Also, Blockbuster recently changed their rates to match Netflix (which was slightly more expensive until about two weeks ago). I made sure to highlight both of these concerns when I cancelled from Blockbuster’s service.
