I’ll be headed to San Francisco next Wednesday for a seminar for work. I barely know the area, but my hotel is on Powell (don’t know the cross-street).

Anyone know some good places around there for lunch and/or dinner? Nothing fancy, just good food and pleasant atmosphere.

You’ve got to go to North-Beach Little Italy for dinner. There are lots of little diners and places to eat there and most places make their own pasta and sauces, soooooo good. You can easily take a bus over there and enjoy!! Another good place is always the Boudin Bread bowl restaurant at Fisherman’s Wharf where you can get some great clam chowder in a freshly baked sourdough bowl.

Gotta agree with Sabrina, above. We spent a few days in SF last summer and the Little Italy area has lots of good eats. There’s a park there as well, and on one side is a cool little video shop that totally reminded us of the movie “High Fidelity” - local joint with a loud, outspoken guy running it and totally obscure movies mixed in with crap like “Father of the Bride”.
But take the bus there and you’ll go through all kinds of little enclaves. Get a pass for a few hours and take it all the way to the wharf and back. Lot’s of options foodwise and good people watching. you’ll feel like you’ve blended in…
