Well, this seems to be my first official blog. After working out the code to somehting that I at least am distantly pleased with, here it is. Now to talk about nothing in particular.
Tonight I had dinner with a friend who is Chinese. The food was so good! I was feeling slightly ill and wasn’t expecting to enjoy the evening, but their hospitality won me over within seconds. To top it off, I met Professor Chen, who is an artist that has painted his way into the collections of Queen Elizabeth II, Tom Kennedy, various dignitaries from China, and now my own heart. Very impressionistic painting, but not entirely, that is, not always. Beautiful landscapes of China. Beyond description.
Further, our hosts were a guy my age who is learning English and taking the CPA exam at the same time! His mother is a doctor. One of the ladies helping, who also cleans toilets at our church, is the beneficiary of five years of education in English Literature in China. As my roommate pointed out, here we are, holding Bachelors of Music degrees each and doing very little, if anything, with music, and we are being treated like royalty by these folks who have an intellect hidden from most of our culture. How humbling.
